Comment on Tutorial : History of Java By Emiley J.
The logo is a cup of coffee. Java is an island in Indonesia that is known for its coffee and the word java has come to symbolize coffee.

Initially, Java was supposed to be called Oak because that was the tree standing outside the office of Gosling, the key architect of the company FirstPerson that designed the language. However, when they went to brand the code Oak, they found that name was already taken and decided upon Java.
